On most Fridays and Saturdays you can find me standing along Riverview Expressway in Wisconsin Rapids, WI protesting with my new friends. We are protesting 47's policies and the blatant disregard for anyone who isn't in the top 1%.
What is clear to me is that the top wealthy people want to go back to the feudal system and make the majority of the working class serfs. They do not care if we die because there are more low class people to do the work.
How is this clear to me? The VA's budget is been cut, people fired. Why because it's cheaper to bury our veterans, who were promised and earned their benefits. This administration has cut funding for programs like WIC, SNAP, public schools, cancer research, PBS, VOA, USAID, vaccine development, and countless other programs. 47 has canceled student loan debt reduction and forgiveness programs. There are claims that 47's tariffs are reducing costs and bringing jobs back to America. All of this is being done in the name of saving the budget and saving taxpayers dollars. Instead we have no been entered into a war with Iran and have seen gas prices sore and no price reductions that I can notice at this point. (How are those $4 a dozen eggs?)
I protest/rally because I need others to find hope and know that they are not alone. As rights are being threatened, history being edited to cut whole historical events and groups of people being erased (why is the Diary of Anne Frank a book being banned nationwide?), my presence is needed more than ever. Hope is important because not only does my community and the world need it, but so do I. I am working on healing the small child in me who needed to see someone like me growing up and being as authentic as possible in a world where I'm still dismissed, the butt of jokes, and made to be "the other" far too often.
Also I need/want people to see that Christianity is more then what the media often portrays it as. There are more Christians and people of all faiths who are welcoming, inclusive and here for world without saying "love the sinner, hate the sin," "all are welcome, but ..... not if you're divorced, take mental health medication/seek mental healthcare, fat, etc." Faith traditions are easily twisted into something they were never meant to be. Christianity is no exception. I need people to see that they are loved and created just as they are and there are places for them in faith communities, just not the ones you see on TV.
So I hope that if you're so moved you will find ways to resist the current US federal administration. Register to vote and vote every time you have the chance. And stand up for love, mercy and grace.
